June 10, 2020 — The impact of the tragic deaths of people of color in America continues to inspire public gatherings across the nation and in Florence, which call attention to the ongoing racism that many individuals of color feel in their daily lives.
On Monday at the corners of Highways 126 and 101, approximately 50 people of all ages gathered, this time at the request of area youth Jacob and Hector. The protesters held signs in support of equality, #BlackLivesMatter, anti-racism and other signs. They also conducted a nine-minute “die in” to show continued solidarity.
The protesters were mostly dressed in black, wearing masks and attempting to social distance, while dozens of passing cars honked in support.
