William Franklin Barrett II, passed away September 14, 2022
BARRETT—William Franklin Barrett II passed away September 14, 2022. He was born March 24, 1958, and was 64 years old when he died.
Bill was born in Covina, Calif., and lived most of his later years in Florence, Ore., where he also passed in the house he built for his family.
His surviving family includes sons Billy Barrett (William Franklin Barrett III), and Kenneth Barrett, and daughters Mandy Kellogg and Melyssa Schock.
Bill passed after a year and a half battle with cancer. He sought treatment and reduced his cancer through radiation therapy. He bought himself time and worked during and after treatment, but the cancer spread to the stomach. He decided to not go through a second round of treatment and that he would return to Florence after working in Washington at the Conboy Lake National Refuge for the last six years to spend his final moments at home surrounded by family.
Bill designed, remodeled and built many of the homes and businesses in town. He owned a personal business, “Barrett Drafting and Design.”
He loved the Oregon dunes. Bill owned a variety of quads and vehicles over the years and would take his family out to ride in the sand. He also loved bowling, talking about working at the first In-N-Out and studying his genealogy.
Please join us for a celebration of life to memorialize Bill. The event will be at the Florence Evangelical Church on Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to noon. No formal attire will be necessary and it is open to the public. At noon, a light lunch will be served after speaking about Bill and asking guests to share stories.
Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
