Jan. 5, 2019 — Wayne W. Woodworth, 76, passed away from cancer in Springfield, Ore. on Dec. 9, 2018.
Wayne was born Nov. 23, 1942, in Portland, Ore., to Truitt and Wilma Woodworth. He moved with his parents to Florence when he was a young boy. He grew up and went to school in the Siuslaw School District.
In the mid 1970s, Wayne was the Assistant Fire Chief for the Siuslaw Rural Fire Protection District in Florence. He then advanced to Oregon State Deputy Fire Marshal.
He was also elected to, and served on, the Siuslaw Rural Fire Protection District’s Board of Directors.
Alongside his dad, Truitt Woodworth, Wayne helped design and build the Mapleton Swimming Pool, as well as numerous homes around the Florence area. Later in life, he did a lot of work for Bob Manseth at Indian Village.
Wayne loved traveling and camping, especially with his children and stepchildren, at Waldo Lake. He also enjoyed photography and presenting his pictures on an old slide projector to family and friends on Friday evenings.
He also enjoyed hiking and baking.
Wayne leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Tom Gizara of Florence; his son David Woodworth of Galveston, Texas; his grandchildren: Hailey Anderson and Tommy Gizara of Florence; and Emmett and Layla Woodworth of Portland, Ore.; brother Joel, and sisters Susan, Linda and Laurie; as well as many nieces, nephews and stepchildren.
Wayne was preceded in death by his sister, Trudy, and his parents.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Florence Christian Church, 990 Second St. in Florence.
A dessert potluck will follow at the church; please bring your favorite cookie or dessert to share in honor of Wayne.
