Viks to open league against Lions

Freshman guard Braydon Thornton brings the ball around the key for the Vikings, who open league play this Friday at home against Cottage Grove.

Jan. 5, 2018 — The Siuslaw boys basketball team will get a taste of league play today as they continue in the Sky-Em-Skyline Crossover Tournament, facing North Valley at 12:30 today.

Though neither of those teams are members of the Sky-Em League, tournament host Cottage Grove is, and will likely be scouting Siuslaw, who the Lions will face this Friday in Florence for the Sky-Em League opener.

In the meantime, the Vikings (5-7) will finish the non-league season this weekend after playing Hidden Valley (7-4) last night after press deadlines.

Other Sky-Em teams competing in the Crossover Tournament — but not against each other — are Marist (6-5), Junction City (4-8), Elmira (2-6) and Marshfield (7-3) high schools.

Look for full results from this weekend’s tournament in this Wednesday’s edition.

Friday, Siuslaw will officially start the league season when it hosts the Lions at Glenn Butler Court, beginning at 5:45 p.m.

The girls’ game will follow, with the lady Vikings tipping off at 7:15 p.m.
