April 6, 2019 — After missing the Siuslaw Icebreaker a few weeks ago as a precautionary measure following a minor injury, Viking junior Ryan Padilla was back on the javelin runway last Tuesday in Junction City, where he made his presence known by landing the new 4A state-best throw of 172 feet, 4 inches.
The mark won the event at the Sky-Em League JV Meet, setting the tone as the defending state champion and besting the day’s second-best throw by 41 feet. It also overtook what had been the season’s previous best mark in the 4A, set by Tanner Stottlemyer of Newport in mid-March, of 162-2.
