Siuslaw boys d C. Grove: 56-54

C. Grove d Siuslaw girls: 63-31

Jan. 22, 2020 — The Siuslaw boys basketball team kicked off its league season last Friday with an exciting overtime win on the road at Cottage Grove, tying the team for first place in the Sky-Em with Marshfield and Marist high schools — both of whom Siuslaw plays this week.

The Viks’ win came on a last-second buzzer beater launched by sophomore post Chad Hughes, who drained a 5-foot lob as time expired in overtime. The bucket secured a narrow 56-54 victory against the Lions, giving Siuslaw some momentum heading into this week’s schedule against fellow first-place teams Marist Catholic and Marshfield.

Last night, Siuslaw (7-8 overall, 1-0 in league) hosted No. 3-ranked Marist (after press deadlines) at Glenn Butler Court. Friday, Siuslaw will again be at home, this time to face Marshfield

Tipoff is 5:45 p.m., followed by the girls’ game at 7:15 p.m., with both games being broadcast live by KCST 106.9 FM, beginning with pre-game coverage at 5:15 p.m.

In the girls’ match-up during Friday’s league opener, Siuslaw fell to the No. 7-ranked Lady Lions, 63-31, with senior post Mia Collins leading the Lady Vikings with 16 points.

Last night, Siuslaw hosted Marist Catholic (after press deadlines) and will be back on its home court Friday to take on Marshfield.
