Vikings sunk by Pirates

Siuslaw: 43

Marshfield: 56

Feb. 13, 2019 — The Vikings and Pirates each took turns shooting across each other’s bow, starting with fifth-ranked Marshfield, which opened with Siuslaw scoring the first 4 points Friday night at Glenn Butler Court.

The Pirates battled back to take a narrow 11-10 lead to start the second period. Marshfield built on its lead by firing four 3-pointers while holding Siuslaw scoreless for the first half of the quarter.

The Viks fired back with eight points but still trailed 29-18 entering the half.

Though the Pirates continued to gain momentum, Siuslaw countered with an 8-0 run to end the third quarter to re-main within 8 points to start the fourth quarter, 40-32.

However, the Pirates had the final volley, on a 13-0 scoring run toward an eventual 56-43 win.

Senior guard Dylan Wynn led Siuslaw with 13 points, along with 11 points from freshman Braydon Thornton.

Last night, Siuslaw hosted Elmira (after press deadlines) for the final home game of the senior, where seniors Jordan Taniguchi, Nick Swift and Wynn were recognized.

Thursday, Siuslaw will finish the season on the road at Junction City in a game that was originally scheduled for Friday.

The Viking boys will tip off against the Tigers at 7:15 p.m., following the girls’ game, which tips off at 5:45 p.m.
