April 28, 2021 — On Friday (April 23), Siuslaw’s track team hosted the Central Coast Invitational at home. Overall, the girls’ team came in sixth place with a combined score of 68.5. The boys team placed second with a score of 129.
The Vikings had some impressive individual performances that have put some of their athletes among the top of 4A division marks so far this season.
On the boys’ side, Chad Hughes ran a personal record (PR) of 9:33.10a in the 3000 meters, earning him the 4A division’s fastest time for that event.
Another notable performance for boys’ team came from Sam Ulrich and Jaxson Jensen in the 800-meter race. Ulrich finished first with a PR time of 2:03.38a, followed by Jensen in second place with a PR at 2:07.80a.
The Lady Viks also set new season records and personal bests in Friday’s meet, with Brea Blankenship now leading the 4A division in the 800 meters after finishing second with her season-record time of 2:24.92a.
In addition, Rylee Colton had a fantastic performance in the girls’ 3000 meters, finishing first with a PR of 11:15.84a.
On the field, Andrea Osbon had another stellar week, winning both the shot put and discus, with throws of 35-10 and a 103-07, respectively. Osbon also landed third in javelin with a throw of 97-01.
Tuesday, Siuslaw traveled to Cottage Grove (after press deadlines). The Viks’ next meet is this Friday (April 30), when they host the Sky-Em League Showcase, beginning at 4 p.m.
It was also made official this week that, in addition to hosting the Sky-Em League District meet, Siuslaw will host the 4A State Championships this season for the first time in the school’s history.
Both will be held in May.
