Viking wrestlers place third at Far West League duals

Siuslaw wrestlers were on the mats at Douglas High School on Thursday for the six-team Far West League Dual meet. The Vikings won their first three rounds, defeating North Bend 42-30, then Brookings-Harbor (41-21) before sweeping their first three opponents with a 47-6 pummeling of South Umpqua.

Siuslaw Gavin Fletcher (126 lbs.), Patrick Hill (132 lbs.) and Riley Jennings (170 lbs.) each won by pin against North Bend, along with forfeit wins for Sal Sierra (145-lbs.) Jay Goldblatt (160 lbs,), Luis Infante (182 lbs.), and Matthew Horillo (285 lbs.)

Against Brookings, the Viks got wins from Elijah LaCosse (126 lbs.), Ryan Jennings (152 lbs.), Goldblatt, Riley Jennings, Christian Newlan (220 lbs.) and Horillo.

The Viks faced Marshfield in the fourth round. Though the Viks got wins from Richard Huff (132 lbs.), LaCosse, Hill, Ryan Jennings and Infante, Marshfield edged Siuslaw 39-27 to remain the only undefeated team at the meet.

The Viks were also dealt a loss from host Douglas, 42-26, giving Siuslaw (3-2) a third-place finish overall behind first-place Marshfield (5-0) and second-place Douglas (4-1).

Siuslaw is back on the mats today for the Bend Invitational.
