Siuslaw: 10 08 04 01 — 23
Sutherlin: 13 17 15 19 — 64
Dec. 15, 2018 — It had already been an exhausting week spent primarily on the road by the time the Siuslaw boys basketball team stepped onto the hardwood at Sutherlin High School last Tuesday.
By then, the Vikings had already spent the last five of six games on the road, with only one win — and Tuesday night didn't make it any easier.
Or more specifically, junior Bulldog forward Mason Gill didn't. The 6-foot-3 forward scored 19 of his 22 points in the first half to help Sutherlin take a 12-point lead by halftime (30-18).
Early in the half, Siuslaw was able to stay within 3 points, 13-10, with shooting from junior Caleb Hennessee and freshman Braydon Thornton. The Viks then tied the game at 15 early in the second quarter until the Bulldogs, sparked by Gill, went on a 49-8 scoring run through the next two-and-a-half quarters.
In the second half, the Viks were held to a total of 5 points, with the Bulldogs outscoring them 15-4 in the third quarter and 19-1 in the fourth period.
Hennessee led Siuslaw with 9 points, with 5 points from Thornton, 4 points from sophomore Jacob Foskett, 3 points from senior Dylan Wynn and two points from senior Nick swift.
The Viks hosted Pleasant Hill last night (after press deadlines) and will host Stayton this Tuesday, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
