Viking go 1-2 at Junction City, set for rematch with Billies

Siuslaw: 55

Robertson: 37

Dec. 12, 2018 — After opening last week’s three-day Les Schwab Eagle Booster Club Classic with a 77-39 loss to Pleasant Hill on Thursday, the Viking boys basketball team rallied back the next evening to secure a 55-37 win over British Columbia school Samuel Robertson.

Senior Dylan Wynn, freshman Braydon Thornton and sophomore Jacob Foskett combined for 35 of the Viks' 55 points.

Siuslaw opened with a full-court press in an effort to create an offensive strategy out of its defense, according to Siuslaw coach Dylan Perry. The pressure created a opportunities for easy transition baskets, which the Viks made the most of in securing a solid halftime lead.

“We talked about coming out strong in the third quarter and building on our lead,” said Perry, whose team posted 26 points in the quarter while holding Robertson to 12 points.

“We had a comfortable lead by the fourth quarter and were able to get some valuable varsity playing time for our freshmen,” said Perry, whose team won it easily, 55-37.

The win advanced Siuslaw into a match-up for fourth place against past Far West opponent Sutherlin.

Junior Caleb Hennessee led the Viks with 15 points, along with 12 points from Wynn in what eventually turned out to be a 44-33 win for the Bulldogs.

The Viks got a chance for a re-match with No. 5-ranked Sutherlin (5-1) last night (after press deadlines) at the Dawg House.

Friday, Siuslaw will host a re-match with Pleasant Hill, tipping off against the Billies at 7:30 p.m.
