At approximately 3 a.m. this morning (June 29), first responders from Siuslaw Valley Fire & Rescue and Western Lane Ambulance, were deployed to help the U.S. Coast Guard search for three individuals whose fishing boat capsized near the mouth of the Siuslaw River not far from the South Jetty.
While the coast guard searched the waters near the overturned boat, SVFR members searched the shoreline by ATV near the end of South Jetty. Approximately 45 minutes later, one individual was found on the shore.
Earlier this morning at 11:30 a.m., Novelli’s Crab and Seafood confirmed that Amber and Kyle Novelli were the two fatalities in the early morning capsizing of their boat.
REACH Air Medical Services was activated to transport one individual found on the boat to a medical facility.
The Coast Guard is expected to issue a statement later this afternoon. A full report of the tragic incident will be in Wednesday’s edition (July 1).
