McKinnis—Affectionately known as “Terry Lou”, Terry McKinnis died May 3, 2023 as he was mowing roads in proximity to the Sea Lion Caves on the Oregon coast, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. He was born November 3, 1953 in Eugene, Ore. to Carl and Betty (Hodnett) McKinnis, the third of seven children.
Terry grew up in Springfield, Ore. and graduated from Waldport High school in 1972. In 1977 he married Kim Jenkins, sharing 46 years together. They had two sons, Joshua Lee and Martin Caleb. He is survived by his wife Kim; their two sons, Joshua (Cassandra) and Martin McKinnis; two granddaughters, Abigail and Cora McKinnis; two sisters, Becky Cummins-Schoen (Daniel) of Paul, Idaho and Molly Raya of Waldport, Ore.; four brothers, Ed of Pleasant Hill, OreRobin (Jacci) of Lewisberg, Ky., Rick (Star) of Spokane, Wash. and Randy of Waldport, Ore.; twenty nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was known for his amazing and accurate truck-driving and heavy equipment operating skills. He also loved playing his guitar and was a partner in the Craig & Terry logging music band, recording songs about logging and growing up in the great Pacific Northwest. They also produced a gospel album. He had a great love for gospel music and shared his talents playing his guitar and singing for his local church, family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held May 20 at 3 p.m. at the Florence Seventh-day Adventist Church. He will be interred at the Mapleton Pioneer Cemetery in Mapleton, Ore..
