Talents to shine

PTA holds its annual Siuslaw Superstars Talent Show

March 14, 2018 — A plethora of youth talent was in full force on Thursday as the Florence Community Parent Teacher Alliance (PTA) held its annual Siuslaw Superstars Talent Show to a packed house at the Florence Events Center (FEC).

“The evening was a huge success,” PTA President Tiffany Holdahl said. “We are very proud of all the kids who performed, the parents and teachers who supported them and all of the fans from our community who came out to cheer them on.”

Elementary students sang, danced and joked their way throughout the night, which was hosted by Siuslaw Elementary Principal Michael Harklerode.

“There’s not a lot of opportunity in our community for young children with those talents to shine,” Holdahl said. “So once a year they get to shine at the FEC and show off the talents that they’ve grown over their years.”

Included in the program were piano solos, gymnastics routines, song performances and comedic skits.

To finish off the night, Harklerode serenaded Siuslaw Middle School Principal Andy Marohl, dressed in full lunch lady attire, to the song “Lunch Lady Land” by comedian Adam Sandler. The two were soon joined by other members of Siuslaw School District staff dressed as different types of cafeteria food.

“We live in a very tight-knit community that is always very supportive of our schools and programs inside and outside that benefit our kids,” Holdahl said. “The night is a great chance for the community to come together and cheer on the youngest members of the community.”
