March 20, 2019 — A little less than six months ago, Chris and Lindsey Funch crossed the finish line of the Florence Half Marathon to lead each of their respective gender divisions and share first-place medals.
Last Saturday, the Springfield couple returned to Miller Park and repeated their marathon-winning performances, retaining their individual titles once again.
Thirty-year-old Chris Funch won with a time of 1 hour, 15 minutes, 16.2 seconds — shaving more than two minutes off of the event’s record of 1:13:08.7, which he set this past September.
Meanwhile, Lindsey Funch, 33, clocked a time of 1:29:33.7 on the 13.1-mile route.
Eugene runner Logan Osterhout, 26, was the second person across the finish in a time of 1:16:40.4, followed by Sebastien Durandeu, 42, of Otis, Ore., with a third-place time of 1:27:39.1.
Florence resident and Siuslaw Elementary School teacher Eric Utz, 50, was the top local finisher, placing fourth overall in 1:28:21.1.
In the 5K race, Justin Knight, 21, won the male division in 25:48.7; 49-year-old Rosie Shatkin led the women’s division in 28:18.6.
Once again, Pink Buffalo Racing of Eugene hosted and organized the event.
