Siuslaw XC sweeps Warriors, Mooks at home tri-meet

Both teams had five runners finish among the top 10

This past Thursday (March 4), Siuslaw hosted a cross country tri-meet at Florence Golf Links which included teams from Philomath and Tillamook high schools.

The girls race opened the small meet, with Tillamook senior Sarah Pullen taking first place nearly a full minute ahead of the pack in 19:36.61.

Though the Lady Mooks had the first runner across the finish, Siuslaw was able to take the overall win after having all five runners finish among the top 10.

Viking senior Brea Blankenship placed second overall at 20:28.83, followed closely by junior Rylee Colton in third place with a time of 20:29.42.

Next across the finish for Siuslaw was senior Gracie Freudenthal in sixth place (22:13.58), with freshmen runners Jane Lacouture (22:33.80) and Corduroy Holbrook (22:39.43) placing eighth and ninth, respectively.

Final teams scores were Siuslaw with 28, followed by Tillamook with 43 points and third-place Philomath with 51 points.

The boys race had similar results, with Tillamook senior Marshall Bush leading the field of runners with a time of 16:02.83.

And, as in the girls race, Siuslaw was able to pull out the win overall with its top five finishers placing among the top nine spots.

Coming in second and third, respectively, were sophomore Samuel Ulrich and junior Chad Hughes, with times of 17:01.69 and 17:09.95.

Next across the finish line for the Vikings were senior Jaxson Jenson in sixth place (17:32.49), and sophomore Kyle Hughes clocking 17:36.12 for seventh place.

Senior Ryan Jennings finished ninth in 17:44.81 to secure the team win with 27 points.

Philomath was second overall with 40 points, and Tillamook scored 64 for third place in team scoring.

The Vikings’ next race is a dual meet against Marshfield set for Wednesday, March 10, at Millicoma Trail.

Races begin with the girls 5:30 p.m.

As with all sporting events this season, no spectators are allowed to attend the meet.
