Siuslaw wrestlers to host three home meets this season

Nov. 3, 2018 — While the Viking wrestling team will open its season on the road at Harrisburg Nov. 30, Siuslaw will be host to three home meets this season.

That's good news for wrestling fans, who had the opportunity to root for then-freshmen Brady Libby (106 lbs.) and Elijah LaCosse (120 lbs.) at the state meet last season. The two will be returning this year, along with brothers Riley and Ryan Jennings, who competed at 170 lbs. and 138 lbs., respectively — with Riley, a senior this year, narrowly missing a trip to the state mats last season after finishing just one place away for fifth at district.

All four wrestlers will be among those returning this season, which will officially open with the Deven Dawson Memorial Invitational at Harrisburg High School, and end with the Special District 2 Regional Championships in Junction City, Feb. 8 and 9 — with the top finishers advancing to state competition.

In the meantime, Siuslaw will host three opportunities for fans to watch the Vikings in action on their home mats:

• Jan. 15 — Siuslaw 3-way duals with Siletz Valley and Toledo, starting at 6 p.m.

• Jan. 19 — Nick Lutz Memorial Invitational, beginning at 9 a.m.

• Jan. 31 — Siuslaw Senior Nigh Duals with South Eugene and South Umpqua, beginning at 5 p.m.

Siuslaw will compete in the 4A Special District 2 this season.
