Feb. 16, 2019 — In the final home game of the season for the Vikings boys’ basketball team — and last home game of their career for seniors Jordan Taniguchi, Nick Swift and Dylan Wynn — Siuslaw found itself in a perimeter battle against visiting Elmira last Tuesday night.
Wynn was the first to light up the scoreboard on a long 3-point bucket, but the Falcons responded with their own long ball at the end of the court.
The Falcons gradually moved ahead 8-3, then sank another 3-pointer to extend their lead to 8. Sophomore Liam McClellan scored a 3-pointer but Siuslaw’s scoring ended there for the rest of the period as Elmira took a 15-6 lead into the second period.
Though sophomore Jacob Foskett and freshman Braydon Thornton tried igniting Siuslaw’s offense with solid work under the rim, Elmira moved ahead 33-19 by halftime.
With four players scoring in double digits for the Falcons, Siuslaw was never able to close the gap despite Thornton’s game-high 21 points for the Viks.
Elmira won it going away, 71-48.
Wynn had 10 points for the Viks, Foskett added 9 and McLellan had 7 points.
Thursday, Siuslaw fell to the Tigers at Junction City, 69-35.
Tuesday, Siuslaw will host a Sky-Em League boys basketball playoff game between Marshfield and Marist to determine the league’s No. 2 seed.
Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
