Siuslaw: 02 14 09 07 — 32
Stayton: 24 21 20 18 — 83
Dec. 22, 2018 — Coming into Tuesday’s non-league basketball match-up at Glenn Butler Court, there was little doubt the Vikings were going to have their hands full against the 4A’s No. 2-ranked Stayton roster. In addition to a 7-1 record, the Eagles also started a line-up dominated by juniors and seniors, compared to Siuslaw's predominantly sophomore and freshman roster — with Dylan Wynn as its lone starting senior.
The Eagles’ 6-foot-1 senior guard Jordan Butler was particularly effective against the Vikings, scoring a game-high 19 points and sparking a 24-2 run by the end of the first period.
Junior guard Caleb Hennessee drained a trio of 3-pointers in the second period toward an eventual team-high of 11 points, with seniors Nick Swift and Wynn combining for 12 points (5 and 7 points, respectively), but it was well short of landing the Eagles, who secured a 45-16 advantage by halftime.
By the end of the third quarter, Siuslaw's deficit had grown to 42 points, 65-23, with the Eagles averaging 20 points a period before finishing at 83-32.
The Vikings will return to the hardwood Dec. 27 to host Reedsport, beginning at 7 p.m.
