Siuslaw trap shooters excel at Nationals
Members from the Siuslaw Trap Team made a strong showing at the 2023 National Championship of the USA High School Clay Target League, which was held July 5 - 9.
Siuslaw High School Senior Wade Richmond and Freshman Dylan Wheeler qualified for the event, which had 3,000 of the nations best youth clay target shooters competing for the title.
During Saturday’s compitition, Richmond shot 95/100 rounds, ranking him at 380 of 1,178 overall individual shooters, qualifying him for Sunday’s competition. There, he competed against 398 other qualifying shooters, ranking in 218th place at the end of the day.
The score puts Richmond in the top 1 percent of the nation's 34,078 high school shooters, and 11 percent for all those who competed at state.
While Wheeler missed the cutoff for Sunday’s competition, ranking 1,305 out of 1,718, the freshman’s future looks bright with his qualification in nationals as a whole.
