April 13, 2019 — Siuslaw junior Ryan Rendon-Padilla continued his march toward defending his current 4A state title in the javelin, throwing a new school record during last Tuesday’s Sky-Em JV track meet at Siuslaw High School. Rendon-Padilla bested what had previously been the school record of 181 feet, 11 inches, set by Trent Reavis in 2017.

Tuesday, Rendon-Padilla cleared 191-7, improving on Reavis’ throw by more than 10 feet. It was also a personal best for Rendon-Padilla by more than 10 feet.

The Viking junior went on to win the discus on Tuesday with a season-best mark of 119-10.

It was a strong day all around for Siuslaw’s junior boys, with wins for Isaiah Jones in the 200 meters with a PR time of 24.94; Kiger Johnson in the 400-meter race in a PR time of 55.76; and Brendon Jensen running a PR at 2:05.74 in the 800 meters for the win.

Siuslaw sophomore Ryan Jennings also had a standout day, setting PRs and winning both the 1,500-meter race (4:38.11) and 300 hurdles (43.24).

For the Lady Vikings, it was a mixture of sophomores, juniors and seniors landing the day’s top marks.

Sophomores Andrea Osbon and Brea Blankenship each claimed wins, beginning with a PR for Blankenship in the 3,000-meter race in 11:20.59. Osbon won the discus with a throw of 94-3.5.

In the 400 meters, junior Hannah Rannow ran a PR time of 1:04.84 for the win, then went on to win the 800 meters in 2:27.93.
