April 20, 2019 — Originally scheduled to take place in Mapleton but changed due to flooding at Bowerman Field, last week’s Mapleton 4-way Invitational was moved to Siuslaw, with additional 1A teams coming from Crow and Triangle Lake.
Competition was spirited as athletes from both the 1A and 4A divisions battled for high marks during a day that saw dozens of personal bests.
The Vikings claimed a total of 16 wins, including sweeps of the girls 200 meters, 800 meters, 4x400-meter relay, shot put, and triple jump, as well as the boys 3,000 meters, javelin and triple jump.
Wins included the 100-meter dash, with junior Isaiah Jones setting a season-best time of 12.21. Jones also won the long jump with a PR of 17-08.50. Freshman Braydon Thornton landed third at 17-03.
In the 800 meters, junior Brendon Jensen finished in 2:08.0 for the win. Sophomore Ryan Jennings won the 1,500 meters in 4:43.68, followed closely by Siuslaw junior Ricky Loza-Sanchez in third place (4:53.09) for a season best, and freshman Chad Hughes in fourth place with a PR time of 4:53.14.
Junior Jonah Jarman won the 3,000 meters with a season-best time of 10:13.97, with sophomore Jaxson Jensen close on his heels for second place and a PR in 10:35.97.
Jennings also went on to win the 300IH in 43.95.
In the throws, junior Ryan Rendon-Padilla won the javelin at 164-06, sophomore Skyler Loomis landed second at 140-05, and freshman Rhys Fleming was fifth at 126-10.
Sophomore Liam McClellan was seventh with a throw of 119-10. McClellan also threw for second in the discus with a PR at 119-03.
Junior Matthew Horillo launched the steel ball 36-8 to place third in the shot put.
Viking freshman Camp Lacouture had two wins in the air Tuesday, clearing 10-0 in the pole vault and 5-02 in the high jump to win both events.
In the jumps, Thornton set a PR in the triple jump with a leap of 37-01 to win the event.
Jones was second after clearing 35-10.25.
Yesterday afternoon, Siuslaw hosted the multi-divisional Central Coast Invitational (after press deadlines) and will be at Elmira this Tuesday for the Falcons’ JV Sky-Em Invitational meet.
