Siuslaw heads into league play

Jan. 9, 2019 — Siuslaw will head in to the Sky-Em season this Friday after wrapping up the two-day Sky-Em/Skyline Crossover Tournament last weekend, with both Siuslaw teams coming falling in a pair of losses.

Last Friday, the Lady Vikings faced Skyline's North Valley and were held to single-digit scoring in each of the final three quarters, eventually posting 36 points to North Valley’s 50.

The next day, Siuslaw entered halftime in a 9-9 tie, only to have Phoenix more than triple its first-half score with 33 points in the third and fourth quarters for a 42-25 win.

Senior Alyssa Richards led scoring at the tournament for Siuslaw with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Sophomore Gracie Freudenthal had 18 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Mia Collins scored 8 points with 4 rebounds, sophomore Brea Blankenship had 5 points and 18 rebounds, sophomore Lindsey Long had 4 points and 5 rebounds, and senior Madison Reynolds scored 2 points and nabbed 9 rebounds.

In the boys' games, Siuslaw opened the tournament with a one of its highest-scoring games of the season with 56 points, but still lost to Hidden Valley's 70-points, The Vikings then fell 48-32 to North Valley on Saturday.

Friday, both Siuslaw teams will begin the Sky-Em League season by hosting Cottage Grove.

The Viking boys (5-9) will play first, tipping off against The Billies (1-12) at 5:45 p.m.

The Siuslaw girls (4-10) will play Cottage Grove (7-6), beginning at 7:15 p.m.

Both games will be played at Glenn Butler Court at Siuslaw High School.
