Siuslaw High School graduate (2014) Joseph Dotson recently qualified for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes (NAIA) Championships and became a two-time All-Cascade Conference decathlete after posting three personal bests at the CCC Multi-Event Championships in April.
In fourth place following the previous day¹s events, Dotson turned in a stellar performance on day two, eventually finishing second with 6,695 points — just 71 points short of defending champion Seth Gretz of Oregon
Dotson, currently a sophomore at SOU, entered the championships with the
NAIA's second-best point total at 6,304.
His new point total was a personal best, improving on his previous score of 6,484 after placing fifth at last year¹s Nationals. He also earned eight team points for the Raiders, who will be defending their conference title at the CCC Championships this weekend at Raider Stadium.
Dotson, along with 12 other entrants, competed in the 110-meter hurdles (16.40 seconds), discus (130-10.75), pole vault (14-5.25), javelin (159-8) and the 1,500 meters (4:27.51).
Dotson landed personal records in the pole vault and javelin, as well as the 1,500 meters by 6 seconds. The orevious day, he also competed in the 100-meter dash and shot put.
Events for the May 12 and 13 championships at SOU begin Friday for Dodson with the long jump at 4 p.m.
Dotson will kick off Saturday¹s meet with the javelin at 11 a.m.
