Dec. 12, 2018 — The Siuslaw girls basketball team earned itself a chance to play for fourth place in the eight-school Les Schwab Eagle Booster Club Classic, held over last weekend at Junction City and Harrisburg high schools.

In Friday's match-up against Samuel Robertson High School from British Columbia, senior guard Alyssa Richards was a force for the Lady Vikings on the hardwood. Richards had a double-double, draining 23 points and grabbing 13 boards.

After finding themselves trailing 32-23 at haltime, Siuslaw rallied in the second half, outscoring Robertson 24-14 in the third period to take a slim 47-46 lead to start the fourth quarter.

Sparked by Richards, along with scoring from sophomores Lindsey Long and Brea Blankenship, who finished the night with 10 points each, the Viks went on a 20-7 run to end win game 67-53.

Other scoring included 8 points from sophomore Gracie Freudenthal, 7 points from junior Mia Collins, 5 points from senior Zoe Leech, and 1 point from senior Madison Reynolds.

The previous night, Siuslaw opened the three-day tourney with a 2-point heartbreaker loss to Pleasant Hill, 48-50.

The loss came despite three Siuslaw players — Freudenthal, Blankenship and Collins — all scoring in double digits.

Along with 11 points from Freudenthal and 10 points each from Blankenship and Collins, Siuslaw got 6 points from Richards, 5 points from Leech, 4 points from Long and 2 points from Reynolds.

Blankenship had a pair of 3-pointers in the game, and Leech had one 3-pointer against the Lady Billies.

Siuslaw's Friday night win over Robertson put it into a game for fourth place on Saturday against Harrisburg, with the Eagles winning it, 52-34.

Last night, Siuslaw was at Sutherlin (after press deadlines) and will host Pleasant Hill for a non-league re-match this Friday, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
