May 4, 2019— With the Sky-Em League district meet less than a week away (May 10-11), Siuslaw’s track team continued building momentum toward landing multiple state qualifiers and, possibly, a league title next weekend.
This past Tuesday, sophomore Andrea Osbon swept the girls throws, winning the javelin (91-02), discus (102-5) and shot put, with a personal record of 38-3.5, which earned her the No. 6 spot on Siuslaw’s all-time list — just ahead of 1984 graduate Kristy Hines (37-10), who Osbon had been tied with at No. 7 until Tuesday.
Junior Hannah Rannow, who clocked the second-fastest girls 3,000-meter time in Siuslaw history three days earlier, won the 800 meters in 2:22.57, and fellow junior Anne Wartnik ran the 1,500 meters in 5:21.36 for the win and a season-best time.
Other top performances for the Siuslaw girls came from freshmen Arrianna Brown with a PR in the 400 meters (1:11.95), Gracie Perkins with a PR in the javelin (74-03), Winnie Zehn in the pole vault with a PR at 6-0, and a PR in the long jump for Julia Shoji (14-00.75.)
Senior Madison Reynolds landed fourth in the discus with a PR mark of 90-9. Reynolds also placed third in the shot put at 32-01.5.
Davina Galli, also a senior, had a pair of third-place finishes, first with a PR in the 300-meter hurdles (53-03), then with a mark of 7-6 in the pole vault.
Freshman Maisie Jones had a pair of fifth-place marks, in the javelin (76-9) and high jump (4-04).
It was the Jensen brothers, junior Brendon and sophomore Jaxson, who finished first and second, respectively in both the 800-meter and 1,500-meter races. Brendon finished with times of 2:10.47 in the 800 meters and 4:27.03 in the 1,500 meters, while Jaxson had PRs in both races, in 2:11.11 and 4:28.52, respectively.
Rendon Rendon-Padilla, a junior, won the javelin (177-3) and placed second in the discus (119-4).
Yesterday, Siuslaw competed at the Wally Ciochetti Invitational in Cottage Grove (after press deadlines) in its final meet before district meet at Marist next weekend.
