March 4, 2022 — The Siuslaw Baseball Softball Association (SBSA) season kicks off soon and the turnout has exceeded expectations.
SBSA groups kids by age (4 to 12) to form teams of T-ball, baseball and softball players who are close in mental and physical maturity levels. Every player will be assigned to a team and assessed by a coach to help draft teams of roughly equal ability. Everyone plays.
After counting up all the youth who registered this year, it looks like there will be enough players for two majors teams, two minors teams and two rookies teams, along with 107 T-ballers.
With those high numbers of participants, the SBSA needs more coaches.
The association needs coaches for their majors division, which is children 12 years old and under, and for T-ball, which is for 7 and 8 year olds.
“We can’t even explain how excited we are about this season,” the SBSA stated on its Facebook page. “We have had far more athletes register than we anticipated. We can’t let these kids down.”
The SBSA asks that interested people send a message via Facebook if they are interested in coaching, or contact Rich DeSantis at 541-999-0493.
SBSA is a nonprofit charitable corporation registered in Oregon under the Charitable Trust and Corporation Act. It is located in Florence as an all-volunteer organization. It has no paid staff and does not maintain office space.
In addition, board membership is open to parents and interested community members. Board members elect officers once a year, in January.
