Nov. 3, 2018 — Though the fall sports season will officially be over after today for Siuslaw, athletes from its fall sports programs continue to receive recognition. Last week, the Lady Vikings volleyball team received word that it had been nominated for its sportsmanship by Sky-Em League officials with the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA).
Then, this week, a total of 16 individual Siuslaw athletes were among those recognized by coaches in volleyball, cross country and football this season and named to their respective all-league rosters for their efforts.
Siuslaw’s cross country program, which is competing at the 4A state meet today in Eugene after finishing second in the Sky-Em League, received a total of 10 all-league nods.
Among the Siuslaw runners honored were:
First Team: Hannah Rannow and Brendon Jensen.
Second Team: Brea Blankenship, Chloe Madden, Rylee Colton and Jonah Jarman.
Honorable Mention: Anne Wartnik, Gracie Freudenthal, Kiger Johnson and Ryan Jennings.
In volleyball, Makenzie York received First Team recognition as a middle hitter, and Mia Collins was named Second Team all-league for her work as an outside hitter.
In addition, four members of the Vikings football team were named to the all-league roster for the 3A Special District 2-North:
Second Team: Riley Jennings at defensive lineman and Elijah Blankenship at defensive back.
Honorable Mention: Camp LaCouture at both runningback and linebacker, and Hector Garcia at linebacker.
The winter sports season officially begins with practices on Nov. 12.
