Sheriff’s Office seeks man involved in stabbing on Thanksgiving

Dec. 1, 2021 — Lane County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) continues to search for a person involved in a violent incident which took place in the Florence area on Nov. 25.

LCSO has identified 40-year-old Robert Gavin Bowers as a person of interest in the Thanksgiving day stabbing assault in the South Jetty area south of Florence.

According to Sgt. Tom Speldrich, deputies are still seeking to speak with Bowers.

“Bowers has been previously identified as a person of interest regarding the assault that took place on Thanksgiving Day near the South Jetty Staging Area,” Speldrich said. “During that incident, two victims were assaulted with a knife and received serious physical injury. One victim was stabbed and the other was cut.”

Both victims are expected to survive.

The incident prompted emergency response sirens, first to address the injuries and then as LCSO continued to search for the suspect.

“Bowers is likely homeless and most commonly travels by foot,” Speldrich said. “He could be armed and should not be approached.”

LCSO described Bowers as a white male adult with long brown hair and stands around 5’8” to 6’ tall. He was last observed wearing a brown or black jacket. He was last seen on foot headed into the dunes from the Goose Pasture ATV staging area.

Anyone with information regarding Bowers’ whereabouts is asked to call 911.
