Sharon Hobart, 75, passed away on July 3, 2022
HOBART—Sharon Hobart, 75, of Florence, Ore., passed away peacefully on July 3, 2022.
Sharon grew up in Concord, N.H., and attended Central Michigan University, graduating with her BA in 1969 and obtained her MPA from the University of Connecticut in 1972.
Sharon held positions at LCOG, the Oregon Small Business Development Center Network and University of Oregon while living in Eugene, Ore.
In 2009, Sharon was voted mayor of Veneta and held office until her retirement in 2012. Upon retirement, Sharon moved to Florence, where she found a wonderful support network of friends. Although Sharon claimed to be retired, her calendar was still full daily as she volunteered with Kiwanis, Siuslaw Vision, City of Florence Economic Development Committee, City Club, PeaceHealth Community Health Board, Friends of the Library and Florence Area Community Coalition.
Sharon’s greatest joy in life were her grandkids, and her final year in her nursing home was filled with weekly visits from daughter Caitlin and her children, Jax (age 12), Tristan (age 9), Brianna (age 7) and Spencer (age 5).
Sharon was preceded in death by her father and mother, sister, and husband Eric Hardin, and daughter Lindsay Whitlow. She is survived by her daughter, Caitlin Vargas of Eugene.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Driftwood Shores in Florence.
Friends and acquaintances are invited to join at Driftwood Shores at 88416 First Ave. anytime between noon and 2 p.m. for an informal opportunity to recognize Sharon’s friendship and share memories.
