Feb. 1, 2020 — It was a busy week for the Sailors on the hardwood, with two scheduled matchups and a make-up game last night — all on the road.

Tuesday, Mapleton headed east to Triangle Lake in a twin bill against the Lakers, beginning with the Lady Sailors.

At 8-2, the Lady Lakers came into Tuesday’s game tied with Eddyville for second place and two games behind first-place Mohawk (10-2). Mapleton, in sixth place in the Mountain West League (2-7), quickly found itself trailing and in an insurmountable deficit as the Lakers out the game away, 46-17.

In the boys game, the Sailors (8-8) were looking for a chance to break away from a three-way tie with Crow and Eddyville — and sole possession of third place with a win over the seventh-place Lakers (1-9).

It wasn’t long before Mapleton had the upper hand, coasting to a decisive 50-25 win.

Two night later, the Sailors were on the road at Marcola to face two undefeated Mohawk teams, both at 10-0 and at the top of the league standings.

The Lady Mustangs dominated the floor with a high-pressure defense that kept Mapleton to a total of just 7 points.

Meanwhile, Mohawk posted 51 to claim the win and remain undefeated in league play (17-2 overall)

The boys fared a little better, keeping pace for the first quarter before watching the Mustangs steadily pull away for the remaining three quarters. Though the Sailors were able to post 30 points in the matchup, the Mustangs doubled that amount to remain undefeated with a 60-30 victory.

Last night (after press deadlines), Mapleton wrapped up its busy week on the road once again, this time in McKenzie for a make-up game that had been canceled earlier in the season due to snow.

This Tuesday, the Sailors are again on the road to begin the week at Crow before re-turning to their home hardwood Thursday to host McKenzie. The girls will tipoff first in both matchups at 5:30, followed by the boys at 7 p.m.
