April 6, 2019 — The Mapleton track team competed in its fourth meet of the season, and the first home meet, last Tuesday amid drizzles that didn’t slow the team’s performance down.
The girls’ team had 11 top-10 finishes, including first place for freshman Opal Burruss in the 3,000-meter race (13:20.80) as well as gold for fellow freshman Briar Shird in the 800 meters (3:04.90). Sophomore Emily Stevens tied for first in the 100 meters (18.94) and was third in the 100-meter dash (14.37).
For the Mapleton boys, sophomore JJ Neece won the 300 hurdles (49.58), triple jump (38-3.25) and high jump (5-8). Junior Nate Neece threw second in the shot put (36-5) and was third in the 400 meters (1:08.68). Sophomore Phillip Burnette won the 110-meter hurdles in 20.52)
Mapleton is at McKenzie High School today, starting at 11 a.m.
