Dec. 23, 2017 — Ruth H Ostertag, 87, passed away peacefully at home in Florence on Dec. 17, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ida Ostertag; her brother, Erwin; and niece Janet Whitaker.
She is survived by her spouse, Rosemary Alden; sister, Hildegard Cole; nieces Ruth Pfeiffer, Eileen Allen and Susan Bovenzi; and her dear friend, Anita Archer.
Ruth was born in Rochester, N.Y. in 1930. From 1949-1971, she served with the religious order of Mercy Sisters in upstate New York as Sister Mary Conrad, teaching and administrating as school principal.
In 1973, Ruth moved to San Diego, Ca., where she took her PhD in Clinical Psychology at United States International University and established a successful practice at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Ca., from 1980-1993.
In her retirement, Ruth enjoyed traveling to Europe, South America (the Amazon River) and Japan, as well as RVing around the United States, fishing, hiking and reading.
In 2004, Ruth settled in Florence, where she enjoyed small town living near the Pacific Ocean and the majestic forests of the Northwest.
Private service will be held at St. Andrew’s labyrinth in Florence.
