Rods N Rhodies opens with Sept. 11 memorial

Sept. 8, 2021 — On Saturday, Sept. 11, the Rods N Rhodies Car Show will begin with a memorial moment for the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
The community is invited to join the event at 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Bay and Maple streets in Historic Old Town Florence.
The event will include Florence Police Department, Siuslaw Valley Fire and rescue, U.S. Coast Guard Station Siuslaw River, Western Lane Ambulance District and area veteran and patriotic groups.
At 8:40 a.m., weekend announcer Russ Stohmeyer will begin the event with opening comments. He will also lead attendees in a brief remembrance ceremony to recognize those Americans who lost their lives 20 years ago in the 9/11 attacks on the USA.
There will be four representatives to ring the bell once, each to commemorate the times the attacks took place; followed by a moment of silence.
In addition, the National Anthem will play, along with “God Bless the USA.”
At the conclusion, Rods N Rhodies will begin.
