Rob Ward returns to Florence City Council

March 8, 2022 — At Monday’s Florence City Council meeting, the seated councilors voted to appoint current Port of Siuslaw Commissioner Rob Ward to fill the open seat on the council.

The vote to seat Ward was unanimous.

Current councilors Bill Meyer, Sally Wantz and Woody Woodbury and Mayor Joe Henry mentioned Ward’s experience and his familiarity with the way the city operates, in addition to his experience as port commissioner, city councilor and mayor of both Florence and Dunes City, as major factors in their decision.

There were initially eight applicants for the open position, which was vacated when former Councilor Maggie Wisniewski announced her resignation in January. Of those, three candidates were invited for interviews.

Ward will take the oath of office and take his position on the council at the next Florence City Council meeting, scheduled for Monday, March 21. For more information, visit ci.florence.or.us.
