RAIN looks at branding, marketing with Florence cohort

RAIN Executive Director Caroline Cummings talks about the kinds of people who come up with ideas, create something from that idea and start, expand a business and sell a business. She also demonstrated how to hold a power stance and make bold declarations.

“Florence has the biggest entrepreneur cohort in the whole state. That’s your claim to fame right now”

Feb. 26, 2020 — “Florence has the biggest entrepreneur cohort in the whole state. That’s your claim to fame right now,” said Oregon RAIN (Regional Accelerator and Innovation Network) Executive Director Caroline Cummings.

She was talking to the 20 people involved in the Startup Florence Oregon Coast Pre-Accelerator 2020 cohort on Feb. 20 at Oregon Pacific Bank’s Financial Center.

With “Start-up Branding + Sales/Marketing,” Cummings taught about the types of people in the business world, getting feedback at early stages and building up a brand.

“Know what you want to own, and how you will defend it,” she said.

The cohort meets weekly with RAIN Rural Venture Catalyst Ariel Ruben, who works with members on their ideas for a new business, to grow an existing business and even how to fund or partner with other entrepreneurs. She also talked about the power of presentation, and instructed members on how to do a power stance similar to the “Fearless Girl” bronze sculpture by Kristen Visbal that is on display in New York.
