Plein Air art along the port

A second session of socially distanced art will take place Thursday

June 24, 2020 — This Thursday, June 25, join other artists for a “Social Distance Impromptu Plein Air Session” at 10 a.m. at the Port of Siuslaw.

Hosted by Florence artist Jo Beaudreau, owner of BeauxArts Fine Art Materials & Gallery, the session is a chance to make art outside while spread out from other art participants.

“Using plein air techniques, people in the Siuslaw Region are able to safely access staying local as they keep creating,” Beaudreau said. “With all the natural beauty, creative talent and local resources, a small group of artists participated in a social distancing plein air experience last Friday morning — before the wind picked up.”

People participating have been practicing various degrees of social distancing, and people are asked to respect boundaries of others.

Beaudreau offers these tips for those who wish to join:

  • Use the restroom before you arrive since the nearest facilities are located in Old Town.
  • Bring all materials you think you’ll need, along with some extras. Most plein air artists travel light and get creative with their choice of materials.
  • Bring a mask and other PPE (personal protection equipment) items.
  • Bring water and a snack
  • Wear sunscreen and consider a hat or sun umbrella to shade your face.
  • There are trash cans nearby, but people must clean up their own space.
  • Consider bringing a folding chair. Some benches are available on the port boardwalk, but may not contribute to adequate social distancing.
  • Wear layers of clothing, including a removable jacket, as the weather can be unpredictable.
