Nov. 2, 2019 — November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month — and PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center is preparing for its 24th annual Light Up A Life ceremony, which raises funds for these vital services.
The date of this year’s ceremony is Saturday, Nov. 9 — a month earlier than usual so as not to interfere with the busy holiday season. The ceremony will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St.
The Light Up A Life ceremony offers an opportunity to remember and recognize family members and friends who have died — regardless of when, or whether, the individual was a Hospice patient.
Stars, including Stars of David, will honor the loved one, or simply recognize someone who has made a difference in a person’s life. The loved one’s name will appear on the star, which is then placed on a tree. Recognition is also given during the “reading of the names” segment of the ceremony.
As in the past, families are also invited to submit photographs of loved ones to be included in a memorial slide presentation.
The celebration will include reflection, music and vocalists, with refreshments served at the end.
As Light Up A Life is Peace Harbor Hospice’s only fundraiser, donations are appreciated — and all contributions are tax deductible.
Admission to the event is free, and all are welcome to celebrate the lives of loved ones. Donations may be made online at peacehealth.org/LUAL-Florence, or mailed to Peace Harbor Hospice at 400 Ninth St., Florence, OR, 97439. They may also be dropped off in person at 2230 Kingwood St. Be sure to include the name of your loved one.
