Oregon Coast Chamber Orchestra comes to Florence Sunday

This week, the Oregon Coast Chamber Orchestra is preparing for fall performances in Florence and Yachats.  A program of familiar tunes and dances is sure to please both audiences.  The program will open with Aaron Copland’s “Variations on a Shaker Melody”, an excerpt from his “Appalachian Spring”, and conclude with Johann Strauss’s “Emperor Waltz.”

The free concert dates are Friday, Nov. 4 at 7:00 pm at the Yachats Community Presbyterian Church, located at 360 West 7th St. in Yachats.

On Sunday, the orchestra will play at 3:00 p.m. at the Florence Presbyterian Church of Siuslaw, located at 3996 Highway 101.

Musicians comprising this group are mostly local folks, however, several come from Eugene and up and down the coast between Lincoln City and Port Orford.  Whether retired professional musicians,  people who have picked up an instrument later in life, those continuing from their own high school/college experience, or currently a high school student, all enjoy time spent together making music under the masterful baton of Paul Strike.
