OCHS celebrates Adopt A Shelter Pet Day April 30

April 30, 2022 — Saturday, April 30, is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day and the animals at Oregon Coast Humane Society are inviting all of their FURRENDS to come celebrate with a day full of PAWSOME fun.
There will be a Puppy Kissing Booth featuring delightful German Shepherd puppies who are hitting the peak of puppy breath.
A bake sale with goodies for humans and animals will be happening, and all proceeds raised will go to care for the shelter’s 100+ residents.
Adult cat adoptions (over one-year-old) will be reduced for the day to $25. The main event will be a Kennel Dedication Ceremony, where the new Fear-Free kennels will be unveiled.
A special fundraiser was held to pay for the kennels, and community members who sponsored individual kennels will be recognized on that day. Each sponsored kennel has a metal plaque honoring the sponsors, with many of them dedicated to beloved pets. Ten of the 15 kennels are sponsored so far, and OCHS Executive Director Elizabeth Thompson says the community support came at a critical time.
“With the cost of vet bills and food increasing during the pandemic, having our generous donors sponsor the kennels allowed us to continue providing exceptional care while improving the housing for our dogs,” she said. “The Fear-Free kennels are easier to clean and reduce noise, and that’s a huge benefit for our most fearful canine residents.”
Community members are welcome to join in the fun on Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Kennel Dedications will happen at 1:30 p.m.
If you’d like to sponsor one of the remaining kennels, call the humane society at 541997-4277.
Oregon Coast Humane Society is a limited intake animal shelter supporting a lifetime of care for the animals and their humans. Programs like spay/neuter coupons, senior pet owner funding, and community pet food pantry are funded entirely through donations.
