Dec. 28, 2019 — Deadlines to nominate businesses and individuals for the 12th annual Siuslaw Awards is fast approaching. Anyone can nominate their own or another business who they believe adds important value to the community.
This prestigious event recognizes excellence in the local business community by naming recipients for awards in Excellence in Customer Service, Curb Appeal, Non-Profit Achievement, Community Caring, Innovation in Business and the Stu Johnston Business of the Year Award.
Nominations close for the business awards on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Nomination forms are available under the blog tab at FlorenceChamber.com.
Two outstanding individuals in the community will be honored with the First Citizen Award and the Future First Citizen Award.
The First Citizen Award recognizes that individual who has given selflessly to the community based on community involvement, leadership and overall community impact. The Future First Citizen Award recognizes a student based on his or her academic leadership and success as well as civic involvement and contributions to the community. First Citizen nomination forms are available at FlorenceChamber.com and Future First Citizen nomination forms will be available later this week.
The Florence Area Chamber of Commerce will also recognize with its Distinguished Service Award an individual or business that has selflessly given of their time and talents in supporting the Chamber and its efforts.
Last year’s winners included: Innovation in Business, Florence Public Art Committee; Business of the Year, Siuslaw News; Community Caring, TR Hunter Real Estate; Curb Appeal, City of Florence Public Works; Excellence in customer service, Heceta Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast; Non-Profit Achievement, Florence Habitat for Humanity; First Citizen, Dee Osborne; Future First Citizen, Audrey Lowder; and Distinguished Service Award, Jenna Bartlett. Previous year’s winners in all categories are not eligible to enter the following year.
The awards banquet, sponsored by the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce, will happen February 12 at the Florence Events Center and is open to the public. Tickets will be available in January at the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center, 290 Highway 101, or online at FlorenceChamber.com.
