Siuslaw: 10 07 13 14 — 44
Tillamook: 12 14 07 15 — 48
Dec. 5, 2018 — Siuslaw opened the basketball season at home on Glenn Butler Court last Friday by hosting Tillamook in a narrow 4-point loss to the Cheesemakers.
The Viks had three players score in double digits, with sophomores Jacob Foskett and Liam McClellan, along with senior Dylan Wynn, scoring 14, 11 and 11 points, respectively.
Like the Lady Viks earlier that evening in their game against the Cheesemakers, the Vikings boys’ trouble came from the foul line, where they went 8-for-22 in freethrow shooting, compared to Tillamook’s 11-for-16 — with 8 of those points coming in the final period.
Despite that, Siuslaw rallied from a 13-point deficit late in the first half, 26-13, to stay within 3 points (33-30) to end the third period.
Then, with just over 5 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, a long 3-pointer from McClellan pulled the Vikings within 1 point, 36-35.
But the Cheesemakers were able to make the most of their freethrow shooting down the stretch to hold out for a two-bucket win, 48-44.
Along with scoring from Foskett, McClellan and Wynn, Siuslaw had 5 points from freshman Braydon Thornton, 2 points from sophomore Skyler Loomis and a freethrow from senior Nick Swift.
Tomorrow, Siuslaw will play Pleasant Hill as the three-day Harrisburg/Junction City Les Schwab Invitational in Junction City, beginning at 5 p.m.
Siuslaw will play again Friday and Saturday, with opponents and game times to be determined.
