NELSON—Joanne was born to Harriet and Joseph Patterson on Oct. 20, 1940, in Glasgow, Mont., and passed away peace- fully after a long illness Sept. 18, 2017.
Joanne’s life focused first on her husband and her children, and she loved being a Granny to her five grandchildren. Her dedication to family was felt by her unending love and support. Her love was felt not only by her words of encouragement, but through her way with food in the kitchen.
Those who knew Joanne knew that her seafood Cioppino was hands down the best on the west coast.
As a Montana gal, Joanne had a true love of the outdoors and fishing was her real pas- sion. She enjoyed the solitude of nature, but was also very social and loved telling stories about her memories with her sorority sisters and going to enjoy the performing arts with her friends.
Joanne was involved with fiber arts and her artistic abili- ties were seen in her felting and knitting. Her watercolor art is beautiful, as well.
She was involved in commu- nity outreach whether she was reading to children and the eld- erly, or helping at Food Share; she always wanted to do as much as she could to help people.
Throughout her life, Joanne pursued so many different interests, from being a partner with her husband in their con- struction business and being a certified mediator, to learning Reiki and massage therapy; to loving and caring for their Westies.
Joanne’s faith in God was her guiding light throughout all her endeavors. Most of all, Joanne will be affectionately remembered for her ability to laugh at life and the sound of her laughter will never be for- gotten. Joanne is survived by her husband, Keith Nelson of Florence; her children: Pegeen Nelson of Bend, Nancy Nelson of Oregon City, and Darek and Rita Nelson (daughter in-law) of Salem; her grandchildren: Matthew Sturza, Rebecca Nelson, Cree Nelson, Mitchell Sturza and Ellie Nelson; and her brother and sister in-law, John and Connie Patterson.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, at the Presbyterian Church of The Siuslaw.
In remembrance of Joanne, please consider making a dona- tion to Hubbard’s Retreat for its excellent hospice care at 5253 Heceta Beach Rd., Florence, Ore. 97439.
Joanne, Mom, Granny and Friend will be deeply missed.
