May 22, 2019 — During last weekend's OSAA 1A State Track & Field meet at Western oregon University in Monmouth, JJ Neece was Mapleton's lone representative competing among athletes from 55 schools.

The Mapleton junior had earned his way into four individual events — the 100 meters, javelin, triple jump and long jump, where he landed in the top 10 in all four events.

On the track, Neece ran a time of 11.62 in the 100-meter dash, finishing fourth after a fifth-place finish during the preliminaries (11.78).

Neece went on to land a throw of 153 feet, 7 inches in the javelin, picking up another fourth-place medal.

In the jumps, Neece opened with a leap of 18-01.75 in the long jump, earning 10th place overall. He then went on to clear 39-10.25 in the triple jump to place seventh in the state.
