Joseph had changed his appearance significantly and was reportedly hiding in various locations in the Florence area after the shooting, including the residence he was located and arrested at Thursday night.

He is scheduled to be arraigned today (Sept. 6).

On July 29, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office had responded to Peace Harbor Hospital in Florence regarding a gunshot wound victim who was reportedly shot in the leg earlier in the day in an area south of Florence off Highway 101. Detectives responded and the investigation identified Joseph as a suspect in the shooting.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Officers of the Florence Police Department, the Troopers from the Oregon State Police Florence Office, and the Tribal Police for their assistance.  The arrest of Gene Joseph would not have been possible without the lengthy investigatory efforts and assistance from local law enforcement partners and the LCSO is extremely grateful for their assistance.
