June 2, 2023 — Students, teachers and guests gathered in the Mapleton High School Gym for the Sforza Faire on May 24 to celebrate local art and science. The special event started off with a presentation of  middle school and high school awards followed by an exhibition featuring K-12 artwork from Mapleton students, community booths, and other learning exhibits.

The event also featured a traditional salmon bake ceremony hosted by Jesse Beers, a sha’yuushtl’a uhl quuiich hiich (Siuslaw and Lower Umpqua person). The salmon was later served to participants and guests.

Community partners were also in attendance with booths sharing local information and resources including Siuslaw Family Connections.

Students stood next to their exhibits offering explanations and engaging in discussion. Exhibits included aquaponics systems, shoe building and design using different priorities (cushion, stability, mass, traction, style), drilling in the Andes, deforestation, and more.
