FLORENCE—Actors and production team members of Last Resort Players took to the streets May 21 to showcase two upcoming performances. Participants in the Rhododendron Festival’s Grand Floral Parade included current actors from June’s “Master Class,” past performers of “Pirates of Penzance” and “Moon Over Buffalo” and the debut of Elyse Stewart as the star of “Annie.”
Jennifer Connor will direct “Annie” at the Florence Events Center on November 3 to 5 and 10 to 12.
“Annie” is a Broadway musical based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip “Little Orphan Annie,” with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and book by Thomas Meehan. The musical’s songs “Tomorrow” and “It’s the Hard Knock Life” are among its most popular musical numbers.
Set in the 1930s, Annie is a spunky orphan girl who must live in a miserable orphanage run by the tyrannical Miss Hannigan. Her seemingly hopeless situation changes dramatically when she is selected to spend a short time at the residence of the wealthy munitions industrialist, Oliver Warbucks.
A large cast of 35 to 40 actors, dancers and singers make up the cast of this family friendly musical.
“We are so pleased with the turn out for ‘Annie’ auditions,” Connor said. “What a great job they all did! We are looking forward to an amazing show with a fantastic cast of characters.”
The stars include

• Grace — Joanie Schmidt
• Miss Aggie Hannigan — Sabrina Hand
