The Siuslaw girls basketball team (0-7) took to its home hardwood for the first time this season on Tuesday, taking on Cottage Grove (1-2).

The Lady Lions’ high-pressure defense was able to create multiple turnovers and scoring opportunities that led to a 14-2 lead by the end of the first period, with freshman point guard Lindsey Long scoring the Lady Viks’ only bucket of the quarter.

Junior forward Madison Reynolds added scoring in the second period, but not enough to catch up to the Lions’ 26-9 lead at halftime.

Off the glass, sophomore Mia Collins, along freshman Gracie Freudenthal, junior Alyssa Richards and Long each nabbed 6 rebounds.

Freudenthal and freshman Brea Blankenship each had a bucket against Cottage Grove, which went on to win it, 40-20.

The game kicked off a five-game home stand, which continues Monday night against Sweet Home. Tuesday, Siuslaw hosts Reedsport.

Tip-off for both games is at 6 p.m.
