Lady Viks nipped by Cubs

Siuslaw: 07  07  16  11 — 41

Tillamook: 09  15  10  13 — 47

Dec. 5, 2018 — Sophomore Lindsey Long and freshman Gracie Freudenthal combined in double-digit scoring to provide 27 of Siuslaw’s 41 points against Tillamook last Friday night in non-league basketball play. The Lady Viks hosted the Cheesemakers for the home opener, with Siuslaw rallying late in the game to take the lead at the top of the fourth quarter. Long scored 13 of her team-high 15 points in the second half to help spark the comeback. A two-pointer from junior Mia Collins gave the Viks a slim 35-34 lead early in the final period after trailing by as many as 13 points.

The Cheesemakers, who got out to a 10-point lead by halftime on shooting from senior Maddie Reeves — who drained 17 of her eventual 21 points in the first half — kept things close throughout the fourth quarter. Collins tied the game at 41 before Tillamook pulled away in the final minute from the freethrow line to edge out Siuslaw, 47-41.

Overall, the Cheesemakers went 18-for-33 in foul shooting while the Viks were 6-for-13.

Long led Siuslaw in scoring with 15 points. Freudenthal had 12, sophomore Brea Blankenship had 8, Collins scored 4, and sophomore Savannah Morris scored 2 points.

Tomorrow, Siuslaw will play Pleasant Hill as the three-day Harrisburg/Junction City Les Schwab Invitational in Junction City, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Siuslaw will play again Friday and Saturday, with opponents and game times to be determined.
