The Lady Vikings’ first win of the season came in front of a hometown crowd Monday night, with Siuslaw putting a leash on the visiting Lady Huskies of Sweet Home.

Freshman point guard Brea Blankenship was the spark plug firing Siuslaw’s offense, going 50 percent from the field (5-for-10), including a pair of timely 3-pointers and a total 13 points to lead scoring for Siuslaw.

Blankenship was also the first to score in the game, sinking a short jumper for a 2-0 lead. A pair of hard-fought rebounds by junior Erin Reynolds extended the Lady Viks’ lead to 6-0 before Sweet Home scored its first basket.

Sophomore post Mia Collins scored back-to-back buckets, first on a jumper then off a pass inside from Reynolds. Senior Correina Greenburg drove the ball to the arc then passed to Blankenship for an easy basket to end the period ahead 12-4. Siuslaw continued to dominate in the second quarter, with Reynolds grabbing a rebound and pitching it to the outside corner, where Blankenship drained her first 3-pointer for a 15-4 lead.

By halftime, Siuslaw had tacked on 8 more points to move ahead 23-9. From there, the Lady Viks never looked back en route to a decisive 38-25 win.

Along with 13 points, Blankenship also had 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Collins and Greenburg had 6 points apiece, along with 4 points each from Reynolds and senior Marika White.

Off the glass, Reynolds led rebounding with 8, followed by White with 7 boards.

Siuslaw also had rebounding from junior Alyssa Richards (6), freshman Gracie Freudenthal (4), senior Lexi Curtis (1), and Collins (2).

Last night, Siuslaw hosted Reedsport for a non-league game (after press deadlines.) Siuslaw (1-7) will take a break before returning to the hardwood to host Corbet on Friday, Dec. 29.

Girls tip off at 4 p.m., followed by the boys at 5:30 p.m.
